Green Papaya offers a straightforward, no-frills dining experience that centers on authentic Thai and Laotian cuisine right in the heart of Stockton. Located at 6262 Pacific Ave, this spot is best known for filling cravings for flavorful, aromatic dishes like Yellow Curry, Drunken Noodles, and various Laotian specialties including Pork Belly Laap and Spicy Lao Pork Sausage.

The restaurant’s interior is clean and air conditioned but leans heavily toward a minimalist, somewhat bare aesthetic—walls are mostly undecorated and the acoustics amplify noise, making it a lively but rather loud setting. This is not the place for a quiet, intimate meal, but it suits casual dinners or group outings where the focus is less on ambiance and more on the food.

Service here consistently receives praise for being friendly and attentive, with staff members quick to update guests on order progress, especially useful for takeout. Many diners rely on Green Papaya for quick, satisfying meals, whether dining in or grabbing food to go with relatively short wait times.

The menu covers classic staples alongside vegan options, which broadens its appeal. Dishes like Pad Thai and Lao Sausage come prepared with authentic touches—Pad Thai tends to be saucier than average, which may be a welcome variation for some. Spring Rolls and vibrant salads like Papaya Salad Lao Style add freshness and texture balance to the heavier mains.

Green Papaya attracts a blend of locals familiar with Southeast Asian flavors and newcomers eager to explore Laotian specialties in a casual setting. The best time to visit seems to be earlier in the evening to avoid peak noise levels, especially if you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. Overall, it’s a practical choice for those who prioritize solid, genuine cuisine over polished decor or quietude.

Pretty good Thai food, we liked the basil chicken and the Lao sausage. The dining room has nothing on the walls and is SO LOUD though. Hopefully they put some cushioning on the walls! Very friendly service.

After ordering a pick up order I showed up earlier than the order time promised. They were on the verge of closing and had no one in the dining area. A few orders came and went. I was just waiting. Without me having to check in the staff kept me updated on delays and would continually check in with me and apologize without any prompting from me. When they got me my food they surprised me with a free Thai tea for the inconvenience. I already love their food and service and this was above and beyond. So I had to speak to their customer satisfaction tonight and though I would be coming back either way this review would not have happened if it wasn’t for that above and beyond service.

The restaurant was nice, clean and air conditioned. Service was fantastic. Very attentive and kind staff. We ordered Pad Thai, KaoPoon, Spring Rolls, Nam Khao and Lao Sausage and everything was delicious. The Pad Thai was a little saucier than most places but I didn't mind. Thanks for the great meal!

Excellent food. Got Pad Se Eew Chicken, Red Curry Shrimp, & Lao Sausage. We ordered to go and was ready in less than 15 min. Really a 4.5 star, but google doesn’t let you do half stars. I can see why people don’t like the atmosphere. Decor is minimalist and the acoustics are awful. However, I’m a good first reviewer and have had lots of Cambodian, Lao, & Thai food where this compares highly to some of the best. Lao Der nearby is more authentically Laotian, but Green Papaya is still very good. Prices may be high for the area (don’t really know), but good compared to overpriced Bay Area.

I have been to this place for years since it was just a food truck. It has grown into it 2nd location and it's my first time here. Great spot and restaurant is super clean and opened. Review is solely based on this visit alone. Gotta say this was one of the best dinners I've had in a long time. Everything came out quick and food was on point. Can't wait to come back.

This is the ONLY place I eat at when I am in Stockton. I can’t get enough of their pork belly with sticky rice plate. I’m aware that I can get pork belly anywhere but the dipping sauce here pairs really well to keep the taste buds excited for more. I was unaware that Green Papaya was featured on Food Network as well. The service is always great and the food tasting consistent. Quite a large establishment but it’s never filled. There are always LOTS of take out orders. I feel the menu items are fairly priced. Have you ever been in a men’s bathroom at most Asian restaurant? It’s usually neglected and very dirty. Not here! Well kept for the most part. Perhaps one day when I have the courage to try out the entire menu, I will give it 5 stars. It’s not because I’m afraid to try other items. I just can’t get enough of the pork belly!
